“The mandala is an archetypal image whose occurrence is attested throughout the ages. It signifies the wholeness of the Self.” —Carl G. Jung

The mandala is a symbol for wholeness. When you use it as a focal point for meditation and introspection, you enter the sacred circle, awaken to your luminous self, and open yourself up to profound healing.

In this workshop guided by Eileen M. Rose (“Rosie”) and Dr. Michael F. Garger, you practice gentle qigong movements to develop the mind-body awareness needed to connect with your authentic self. Through simple, straightforward techniques, rituals, and periods of silence, you learn to focus, hold an intention, and intuitively receive and illuminate sacred symbols.

In a joyful and noncompetitive environment, you create a number of luminous mandalas and have the chance to work on a communal sand mandala. No artistic experience is required—all are welcome.

Your $20 materials fee includes:

We will be providing a hand-held sharpener but you are always welcome to bring your own. (Sorry, no electric sharpeners in the classroom.) We will be providing Prismacolor Premier brand colored pencils in the following colors:

PC 916 Thick Lead Art Pencil Canary Yellow
PC 918 Thick Lead Art Pencil Orange
PC 930 Thick Lead Art Pencil Magenta

Included in the materials fee is all the paper you will need. We prefer Strathmore Series 500 Charcoal Paper and Artagain Black Paper.

If you prefer to work on large sheets of paper, Strathmore pastel paper 19” x 25” will be available at a discounted price of $1.35 each.

Things to Bring:

  • An image or icon of a symbol that represents your spiritual tradition to place on group altar. (It can be a picture of a deity, a feather or crystal or whatever you perceive as Divine.
  • A journal (they have beautiful ones at the Omega Bookstore so you might want to get one there).
  • A tube or folder to bring your art home.
  • I will be bringing enough compasses to loan to each of you, but if you have one that you like, you may bring your own.
  • As part of the class, we will be creating  a communal sand mandala. If, and only if it is convenient, and you have the time and energy, bring along a small amount of sand or soil (about a tablespoon or more) from your area to be included in the group sand mandala.
  • Shoes are to be removed before entering the seminar rooms so you may want to bring shoes that slip on and off easily or sock slippers to wear in the class if it is cool.

It is absolutely not necessary but if you choose to add additional pencils to your palette, I recommend Prismacolor Premier brand pencils in the following colors:
PC 909 Thick Lead Art Pencil Grass Green
PC 902 Thick Lead Art Pencil Ultramarine Blue
PC 923 Thick Lead Art Pencil Scarlet Lake
PC 905 Thick Lead Art Pencil Aquamarine
PC 917 Thick Lead Art Pencil Sunburst Yellow
PC 934 Thick Lead Art Pencil Lavender
PC 926 Thick Lead Art Pencil Carmine Red
PC 993 Thick Lead Art Pencil Hot Pink
PC 1009 Thick Lead Art Pencil Dahlia Purple
PC 950 Thick Lead Art Pencil Metallic Gold
PC 935 Thick Lead Art Pencil Black

If you like using a different brand you may bring that instead but I find Prismacolor works best on all colored papers.
